Description
In an April 1975 match televised on Match Of The Day, Sheffield United’s Tony Currie and his good friend Alan Birchenall of Leicester were involved in a collision when battling for the ball. With both players on the ground they decided to, quite literally, kiss and make up. In an age of free love the image went around the world, was printed on t-shirts and the pair even featured in a magazine for German homosexuals, who asked them to write a regular column. Birchenall said: “Every year we have to reenact the kiss and he gets uglier by the year.”
